I recently earned an MFA in creative writing and enjoy working with writers of all genres in developing new work. I’m excited at the idea of being a part of a small team that brings new, perhaps even experimental voices and stories into the world. I have extensive experience as a freelance submissions reader and editor, and as a creative writing teacher. My hope is to build steady relationships (freelance, staff, or otherwise) with independent presses so that I can build with and contribute to the literary community that drives my own creative life.

Vanessa Chung
vanessalilyc [at] gmail [dot] com

I’m a writer from Brooklyn, a PhD candidate in English at Princeton, and a freelance copy editor, proofreader, and fact-checker. I hold a BA in English and art history from Yale, and have extensive experience researching, reading, and writing in and across the various overlapping worlds of art, literature, theater, and academia. I’ve worked on exhibition catalogues for the Brooklyn Museum; and as an editorial assistant at Artforum magazine, where my primary role was fact-checking, copyediting, and proofreading articles and reviews for the monthly print issues. As a writer and reader, and a chronically ill/disabled person, I’m particularly into and invested in interdisciplinary projects and experimental forms and/or works that ask questions about our bodies, health, and healthcare—but I’d be delighted to work on any sort of text, of any form, on any topic. I’m also particularly well-versed in the Chicago Manual of Style. Give me the chance to prove how much I’d love to catch an erroneously italicized apostrophe or two.

I have over ten years of freelance writing and copy editing experience, with articles I wrote published in The Awl, Paste Magazine, and elsewhere, as well as editing academic papers for professors at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo and elsewhere. I’ve mainly worked in newspapers as a copy editor and page designer. I’d like to branch out. I graduated from Wayne State University with a bachelor’s in journalism in 2014. I’ve had about 10 years of newsroom experience. I’ve also self-published over a dozen poetry collections under the name Nicholas Arthur digitally. I have a poetry collection coming out through Kickpop Records in May 2023. When I can, I write articles for my music blog Trout Fishing in Music. If you need someone to edit your project, I’d love to help.
